PC Keith Wallies, the police officer who lied about witnessing the Plebgate row, faces a possible prison sentence.
The 53-year-old has subsequently admitted a charge of misconduct in public office.
Previously he had emailed Conservative deputy chief whip John Randall wrongly claiming that he had seen what happened to Andrew Mitchell on September 19, 2012 at Downing Street.
Last month, Wallis admitted his offence and offered to resign. He is on conditional bail.
Meanwhile, Mr Mitchell welcomed the guilty plea and there were calls for his return to the government. He said: "I am grateful to the Metropolitan Police Commissioner for his apology."
Mr Mitchell had previously apologised for disrespecting the police but vehemently denied that he used foul words during the incident. However, the apology did not stop members of the Police Federation of England and Wales from protesting at the Conservative Party’s annual conference. Because of this pressure, Mitchell resigned a month after the Plebgate row.
