Telecommunications giant Three has submitted plans to install a 20-metre 5G mast in Hampshire Road - opposite Derby's Racecourse park. The new application, which comes a few months when a mast in nearby Old Mansfield Road was burned, has been recommended for approval by council officers.
In the planning documents, Three said that 5G is a "transformational technology" in regards to mobile communication and is designed to cope with increased mobile internet demand.
The documents also read: "The location has been identified as being necessary for H3G Ltd business development and meets its specific technical and operational requirements.
"The identification of this location follows pre-application discussion with your Department and we now make a formal application to you as planning authority."
There are also plans for other 5G masts to be built in the Chaddesden area including Max and Nottingham Roads. 5G hotspots are also being planned for Mackworth and Breadsall.
