Plans for Bridgend £600K CCTV

Bridgend Council to spend £600K on a CCTV system to streamline public services.

Bridgend Council has announced plans to invest £600,000 in a CCTV system to improve its crime prevention schemes as well as streamline public services. 

 

The proposed new system, which will also be used to provide car park monitoring and a free WiFi network to residents, would see the installation of internet protocol cameras capable of transmitting and receiving data over the internet or a network provider. 

 

The system is key to transforming Bridgend into a smart borough that provides "a constant stream of information" to residents and businesses. 

 

Gill Lewis, the council's interim chief officer for finance, performance and change said that the current CCTV system that the borough is using has been operating for the last 20 years. He adds that "the equipment is at the end of its working life" with compatibility issues" getting "more frequent". 

 

Councillors are set to discuss whether to invest £595,000 in a new CCTV system in their next meeting. Currently, the cost of running a 24/7 CCTV service is £499,101 per year. The system is used to tackle issues including crime and anti-social behaviour. It also impacts the way in which people perceive the safety of the area.
