South African Olympic athlete Oscar Pistorius has been granted bail after murder conviction.
17:01 09 December 2015
Oscar Pistorius has posted bail while he awaits sentence for murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in 2013. He is facing a minimum sentence of 15 years imprisonment after judges changed his conviction from manslaughter to murder last week. He is set to appeal the court ruling at the highest court in South Africa, the Constitutional Court.
The bail has been set at 10,000 rands ($700, £450) and Pistorius was deemed not to be a flight risk by Judge Audrey Ledwaba.
The double amputee, who was ordered to surrender his passport, is currently under house arrest and will be electronically tagged. Under the terms of his bail, he is allowed to leave the house between 7:00 and midday but has to stay within 20km radius.
The 29-year-old six-time Paralympic gold medalist killed Ms Steenkamp on Valentine's day after shooting four times through a locked toilet door. He competed at the Olympics in 2012, making a history in the process, as the first amputee sprinter running on prosthetic "blades."
