Pink Floyd are set to release first album in 20 years entitled The Endless River as confirmed by Polly Samson, partner of Pink Floyd’s guitarist and singer David Gilmour on Twitter. She wrote: "Btw Pink Floyd album out in October is called 'The Endless River'. Based on 1994 sessions is Rick Wright's swansong and very beautiful."
The news was confirmed by backing vocalist Durga McBroom-Hudson on Facebook. She shared a picture from the recording sessions and wrote: "The recording did start during The Division Bell sessions (and yes, it was the side project originally titled 'The Big Spliff' that Nick Mason spoke about). Which is why there are Richard Wright tracks on it. But David and Nick have gone in and done a lot more since then.
"It was originally to be a completely instrumental recording, but I came in last December and sang on a few tracks. David then expanded on my backing vocals and has done a lead on at least one of them."
The material will not feature bassist, singer and principle songwriter Roger Waters who left the band in the 1980s, following the release of 1983's The Final Cut album.
Waters has since regularly toured the band's seminal concept album The Wall as a solo artist while David Gilmour took over as leader of the band and continued touring and releasing albums under the Pink Floyd name alongside other members Nick Mason (drums) and Richard Wright (keyboards). All four major members reunited for a 2005 Live 8 show. Wright died in 2008.
The new material will not be toured.
