The number of activity monitors for dogs and cats is slowly increasing and more and more are used for more than just record-keeping of distances covered. Most of the monitors available in the market today are water resistant, come with long lasting rechargeable batteries and synch automatically with smartphones via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.

 

Collar-gadgets are specifically designed to monitor what your pet is doing, recording what type of activity they are doing including playing, running and sleeping. Some offers vets important details by recording physiological parameters to catch early signs of health conditions while some include GPS location tracking so you’ll know your pet’s location anytime of the day.

 

There are many different pet activity monitors now available and there isn’t yet a clear market leader. There’s also no single device that ticks all the boxes. When choosing, decide what features are most important to you.

 

More popular ones include Fitbark and Pitpat. Both give you an individualised activity/time breakdown of your pet and allow you to share your dog’s report with your vet. Another frontrunner is Petpace, a comprehensive dog health monitor that tracks parameters such as pulse, temperature, respiration, activity, calories and even posture. KippyVita and Pawtrack are other frontrunners. They monitor activity and location with their built-in GPS/SIM card.
