Perth's Enhanced CCTV System

Perth city centre to benefit from a radically enhanced CCTV system.

Plans to use a radically enhanced CCTV system to protect Perth city centre are being drawn up. The new set up will make use of tracking technology to monitor large gatherings as well as follow suspects through the area.

 

The new system will also be used to identify collisions or breakdowns so measures can be taken to ease congestion on the roads. The project, which full cost has yet to be confirmed, will be funded by the Smart Cities Programme.

 

City centre Lib Dem councillor Peter Barrett said: “The next generation of digital CCTV has the potential to revolutionise how our city centre can be made safer,”

 

“Having a shared operation with the police will deliver efficiencies but the real benefits will be realised through the software.”
