Recycling centre staff to be fitted with body cameras following a 'marked increase' in the number of attacks by members of the public.

Bodycams for council recycling centre staff will be used following rise in attacks. The council said that the 12-week trial aims to deter “violence and aggression” against frontline staff.

 

The cameras will only be activated if staff has a reason to believe that they are in a situation that has the potential to become inflammatory.

 

Colin Stewart, the environment, enterprise and infrastructure convener, said: "I believe this technology will not only protect staff but also help drive down unfounded complaints against employees and enable the council to gather better evidence for swifter justice."
