People with Disabilities IoT
The potential of IoT technologies for people with disabilities.
12:41 11 August 2017
The development of cloud-based technologies and affordable data-tracking sensors has allowed many industries to take advantage of the benefits of Internet of Things (IoT). Today, the number of health organisations that incorporate networks of connected devices to increase efficiency of care and lower medical costs is steadily growing. The IoT has made so many things possible, one of which is giving healthcare professionals the ability to provide remote medical care, which offers disabled individuals greater opportunities for independence outside of care facilities.
People with disabilities can also take advantage of IoT in their home. There are now technologies that provide them the ability to lock and unlock their doors and activate or deactivate their alarm system using their phone or tablet. This means that they do not have to get up to get these things done. They also now have the ability to adjust lighting for particular moods, order groceries and supplies, and regulate temperatures throughout their home. The same devices could also be used to alert family members and caregivers of any attention that they may need their attention.
Because of the enormous benefits it offer, it is expected that IoT-enabled devices will continue to expand and further improve healthcare and accessibility to our home.
