Official statistics have revealed that people in East Dorset have the highest life expectancy in the country. According to the report, it seems that the people living in the area benefit from the climate and healthy lifestyle.
Male life expectancy in England and Wales is 83 years old; for women, it’s 86.4 years.
Meanwhile, the lowest life expectancy is in the north England where men have average life expectancy of 73.8 years while women are expected to live 79.3 years.
The north-south divide in life expectancy can supposedly be blamed on socio-economic deprivation.
A study that was published in the British Medical Journal in 2010, revealed that people in the north were about 20per cent more likely to die before they reach 75 years old. Reasons include environmental, socioeconomic, educational, lifestyle, and epigenetic factors.
The report also said that the economic disparities between the north and south were marked. It added that government policies between 2000 and 2008 had failed to make a difference.
