Exactly a year ago, Paralympic athlete Oscar Pistorious “mistakenly” shot his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp saying that he mistaken her for an intruder on Valentine’s Day 2013. A year after the incident, Pistorious talked about the shooting and said in a statement on his website: "The loss of Reeva and the complete trauma of that day, I will carry with me for the rest of my life."
Pistorious is due to go on trial in Pretoria in March. State prosecutors alleged that the shooting was premeditated following a fight between the couple. If found guilty, he will be facing life imprisonment.
The Paralympic sprint star’s statement added: "No words can adequately capture my feelings about the devastating accident that has caused such heartache for everyone who truly loved - and continues to love - Reeva.
"The pain and sadness - especially for Reeva's parents, family and friends - consumes me with sorrow.
"The loss of Reeva and the complete trauma of that day, I will carry with me for the rest of my life. Oscar."
