The town of Ferguson is in flames after a Missouri grand jury decided not to indict white police officer who shot African American teenager Michael Brown. Brown was unarmed at the time of the incident.
Violent protests broke out in the Missouri town with protesters torching businesses and police cars. Among the businesses that were engulfed in fire include a storage facility, two auto parts stores, a beauty supply and a pizza shop.
Chief Jon Belmar of St Louis County said the rioting was "probably much worse than the worst night we had in August".
29 people were arrested in the connection of the riots. No serious injuries had been reported but the cost of damages is expected to be high.
Lesley McSpadden, the mother of Michael Brown, was sitting atop a vehicle listening to the broadcast of the grand jury’s announcement. She immediately burst into tears when the decision was announced. She began screaming before being whisked away by supporters.
Meanwhile, US President Barack Obama called for restraint.
"We are a nation built on the rule of law and so we need to accept that this decision was the grand jury's to make," said the President.
