Oscars: Redmayne And Birdman Come Up Trumps

Birdman won the best film at the Oscars while British star Eddie Redmayne went home with the best actor trophy for The Theory of Everything.

British star Eddie Redmayne was named best actor at the recently concluded Oscars, beating fellow Brit Benedict Cumberbatch, Bradley Cooper, Michael Keaton, and Steve Carell. Meanwhile, Birdman won the best film, cinematography, and original screenplay, while the best director trophy went to Alejandro G. Inarritu.

 

Accepting his award Redmayne said he was a "lucky, lucky man".

"This belongs to all of those people around the world battling ALS," said the 33-year-old actor.

"It belongs to one exceptional family; Stephen, Jane, Jonathan and the Hawking children."

 

Referring to his iconic statuette, he added: "I promise you I will look after him, I will polish him, I will answer his beck and call and wait on him hand and foot."

 

Meanwhile, Julianne Moore took the best actress prize for Still Alice beating Rosamund Pike and Felicity Jones.

 

Ralph Fiennes' movie The Grand Budapest Hotel also took home awards including best in costume design, make-up and hairstyling, production design, and best original score. The film, just like the Birdman, had nine nominations.
