North Tyneside New CCTV

New CCTV cameras to be installed at some of North Tyneside's most loved locations in a bid to tackle anti-social behaviour.

North Tyneside Council has recently installed CCTV cameras at some of its most-loved beauty spots in a bid to tackle anti-social behaviour and fly-tipping. 

 

The CCTV cameras are hoped to provide better security at Marine Park in Whitley Bay, Cullercoats Metro Station, Killingworth Lake, Howdon Park and the Rising Sun Country Park. The scheme is part of a bigger project that aims to keep outdoor spaces in the borough safe and clean as they are now frequented by visitors following the relaxation of lockdown restrictions. 

 

Meanwhile, the coast is now being patrolled by extra beach wardens while an additional 80 litter bins have been placed at identified littering hotspots. North Tyneside marshals have also been given new powers to issue fines for littering and dog fouling while the council's Community and Public Space Protection Team are on patrol alongside Northumbria Police officers. 

 

Coun Carole Burdis, cabinet member for community safety and public protection added : “These cameras will be a valuable tool for the council in monitoring and tackling disorder in these locations.

 

“We know from experience that the warmer weather during the summer months has the potential to cause issues ranging from extra litter on our beaches to people drinking in public and this can bring added pressure on local areas.

 

“The council has made a real effort to be ready for this – and the easing of lockdown restrictions – by putting in a wide range of additional measures to reassure and give confidence to local people and visitors.

 

“I’m confident that, with their support, these measures are already making a difference and I hope that people feel safer knowing that these cameras are in place and our teams are out there on patrol.”
