TopMix, a super absorbent concrete that can absorb 4,000 litres of water in seconds could provide solutions to flooding problems that affect many areas in the UK. 

 

In a video posted online, the concrete directs the water off of its surface and absorb it almost immediately. In the clip, 4,000 litres of water is poured on the pavement and was absorbed almost instantly.

 

The special concrete can be used to minimise damage caused by flood which typically affects residential areas because the ground water has no where to go once the drains are full. However, the system may prove to be problematic during winter season as the water is likely to freeze in the material, resulting in cracks and other damages.
