Chloe, a Newfoundland, can do much more than just fetching a ball or newspaper; thanks to her owner, Hazel Carter, she has the skills to help with cooking, loading the washing machine, and taking out the rubbish out. She can also fetch tissues when her owner sneezes and even collect groceries from the pantry and pots from the cupboards at meal times.
Hazel has been training Chloe for five years and the results have been nothing but amazing.
She said: “If she sees me get a pan out she’ll go straight to the pantry and fetch some potatoes to cook with
“Or, if I tap the end of the broom on the floor, she knows to go and get the dustpan and brush.
“It’s taken five years of carefully building up bit by bit, teaching her basic commands and using treats and positive reinforcement to train her.
“I don’t think of the things she can do as tricks. It’s more like work. She’s very helpful, I’m lucky to have her.”
