A newborn infant was saved from a toilet pipe by firefighters in eastern China and was brought to the nearest hospital. The baby boy is now safe.
According to reports, a tenant in a residential building in Jinhua heard a baby crying and reported it to the authorities. Firefighters cut open the drain and successfully saved the infant from a sewer pipe below a lavatory.
The report caused outrage among people from different parts of the globe who voiced their anger on social networking sites.
Meanwhile, police are treating the case as an attempted homicide. They’re now looking for the mother and anyone else who might be involved in the incident.
Reports of babies being abandoned shortly after birth are believed to have happened before in China.
One of the reasons for this is thought to be because unmarried young women may bear the pressure of being unattractive to men after giving birth.
