New Credit Card and TV Streaming Service
Apple launches new credit card and TV streaming service.
20:48 29 March 2019
Apple has recently unveiled a new credit card, Apple Arcade and TV streaming service, the Apple TV in a series of announcements as part of its hunt for growth outside of its core iPhone business. Its new streaming service features A-list Hollywood personalities, including Jason Momoa, Stephen Spielberg, Oprah Winfrey and Jennifer Aniston. Titles will include The Morning Show, a drama set around a TV chat programme, and Amazing Stories, a reboot of Mr Spielberg’s Eighties fantasy series. The company has also announced a string of deals with other video providers, including Britbox and HBO.
Other services that the iPhone maker has announced are a paid-for magazine subscription app and a subscription service for iPhone games.
The Apple Card, which is due to be released this summer, is designed to work with the iPhone’s contactless payment service. Mr. Cook said that it would represent the “most significant change to the credit card experience in 50 years.”
Apple’s TV service will make the online video market more crowded. It will join Netflix, which currently has more than 150million subscribers worldwide, and Amazon, which has bundled its own video service with its Prime membership. Disney is also releasing its own streaming service by the end of this year.
