Three projects in York, Oxfordshire and Bournemouth have recently received £1.5million funding from the government. The goal is to explore various ways of how traffic congestion can be improved using available technology. The funding is part of the £20million Govtech Catalyst fund to help solve local transport issues through tech.
The scheme includes using a tool to predict congestion, software to monitor traffic, technology to map vehicle paths and systems designed to flag incidents in real-time.
James Gilchrist, City of York Council assistant director for transport, highways and environment, said: ‘We are thrilled to be pioneering innovative ways of using data to improve traffic management in the city.
’This will help us to make better informed decisions, reduce congestion, prioritise road space for sustainable transport and help to increase the reliability of bus services.’
