New Chester CCTV Cameras
Chester's historic rows to get 10 additional CCTV cameras soon.
12:31 19 July 2021
Ten new ceiling and mounted CCTV cameras are being installed to monitor Northgate, Eastgate, Bridge, and Watergate streets in Chester in a bid to curb crime and anti-social behaviour. This follows the approval of a planning application submitted by Cheshire West and Chester Council.
The scheme is supported by CH1Chester BID, Cheshire West and Chester Community Safety Partnership, Aberdeen Standard Investments and the council's housing team.
Deputy council leader Karen Shore said: “The CCTV cameras will be used for the benefit of residents, local businesses and visitors, by helping to deter and detect crime and public disorder.
"The cameras will also contribute to the city’s Purple Flag Status.
“Using CCTV allows resources to be deployed effectively and promptly in response to unfolding events.
"The extended coverage will also help protect the timber structures of the Rows from damage."
The CCTV cameras footage will be forwarded and processed by the council's CCTV control centre in Chester. The local authority has assured the public that the installation work will not cause any disruption for businesses or residents.
