00:21 12 April 2020
Worcester City Council's community safety team has partnered with West Mercia Police to install extra CCTV in Worcestershire Royal. The move follows incidents involving NHS staff's cars being robbed while they worked 13-hour shifts in the battle against the Coronavirus outbreak.
According to police reports, the thieves stole catalytic converters, which contain precious metals, on Sunday, 5 April.
Ann Nicholls, who works for the City Council's Community Safety team, said: "It beggars believe anyone could target NHS staff in such as despicable way at a time when they are working so hard to protect local's people's health.
"We have now installed additional CCTV cameras at the hospital car park - we will do whatever necessary to track down culprits who target NHS staff in such a callous way."
Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to call 101, quoting incident number 204s 5th April 2020 - or to call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
