On Tuesday, October 13, EE has announced that it was switching its 5G network to make the service available to 12 new UK towns and cities, including Blackpool, Porthcawl, Oxford and Aberdeen.
Nick Speed, BT Group’s Director in Wales, said: “It’s great to see Porthcawl being among the first locations in Wales to get 5G. The new technology will enable a faster, more reliable mobile connection for consumers and businesses in the town.
“We know that demands for data from consumers and businesses are continuing to increase, so the arrival of 5G in Porthcawl will make sure it’s ahead of the game in terms of connectivity and competitiveness.”
Bridgend County Borough Council leader Huw David has welcomed the announcement.
He said: “We’re pleased that Porthcawl is among the first locations in Wales to be connected to 5G.
“The challenges we have all faced this year has meant digital communications have taken on an even more important role. I am sure that 5G will offer a number of new opportunities for people who live and work in Porthcawl.
“It’s an exciting time for Porthcawl, especially given the upcoming regeneration of Porthcawl’s waterfront area and the plans to provide the town with an all-new bus terminus as part of the South East Wales Metro Plus initiative.”
