Glasgow councillors have approved a 10-year contract worth almost £5.8 million for the city's CCTV and traffcom network. Commsworld, which was selected as the council's supplier for all 633 circuits, will install and manage as well as provide ongoing support to citywide closed-circuit television and traffcom services.
A council officer said: “Due to the age, both of these networks have to be replaced and following an assessment by the team, it was identified these two services could be brought together.”
The work could have been awarded to CGI, the council’s IT provider, but “after an assessment, the team considered they would get better value by going out to the market for this one”, the officer added.
Meanwhile, a council report states: "CGI will work with the incumbent suppliers and recommended supplier to ensure the switch over and implementation of the new network is undertaken with minimal operational impact”.
The scheme is hoped to bring significant benefits, including accelerating the implementation of 5G network in the city and supporting economic regeneration and growth by breaking down digital barriers.
