Australian Energy Market Commission (AEMC) launches new regulations under National Energy Consumer Framework ( NECF) in favor of the consumers to save from retailers' unfair services which enact the rules under National Energy Laws Act. This could be a great relief to the citizens of Australia from " skyrocketing" monthly energy bills.
The national Energy commission has granted certain drafts to regulate the competitive business of the Energy retailing market. With the recent amendments made to the energy laws, consumers are in a safe zone from unfair energy bills and scams. Here is everything you should know about the recent Nation Energy laws and its regulation against the retailers in force.
NECF regulations in favor of the consumers:
According to the NECF regulation, the laws were executed to maintain fair and proper investment and operation of the funds in use of the Energy Market. This implies the efficient use of energy in the business to create competitive prices among the retailers to fetch decent prices to the consumer on an average basis.
- The NECF rules would determine the operational services of the retailer in use and their contract terms in the business with the government bodies.
- They also determine the participation of the retail sectors in the business by outlining their responsibilities and services.
- Govern the economic regulation of electricity transmission and distribution networks and gas pipelines, so that consumers do not pay more than necessary for their energy. ( Ref. https://energyministers.gov.au/)- outbound links.
These rules were in force on the authority of AEMC but their amendment will be strictly circumstantial based.
However, these regulations are in great favor to the consumers. Now, being aware of these regulations every consumer can seek the rights of their retailer's unfair energy bills and raise a complaint. It is also the right of the consumer that they are free to compare energy plans, switch to a new supplier if they feel to, based on the contact with the retailer. With proper compliance, no retailer is allowed to charge additionally for the unoffered services or the retailer's service taxes to the government.
