Neath Port Talbot Incident Tracking
Neath Port Talbot introduces a solution to getting people to accurately report the location of incidents including fly-tipping, potholes or trees.

Neath Port Talbot Council has become one of the first local authorities in the United Kingdom to introduce a system that allows residents to report the location of incidents. Using innovative mobile technology, people can report fly-tipping, potholes or fallen trees, among others.
The council has partnered with British technology company what3words for the scheme. The firm’s mobile phone app uses GPS technology allowing the council or emergency services to accurately identify the caller’s exactly location.
The council is now urging residents to download the what3words mobile app, which is available for free for both iOS and Android users. The app works even when the mobile phone does not have internet service – making it ideal for use in areas with an unreliable data connection.
Neath Port Talbot Council’s Cabinet Member for Streetscene and Engineering, Cllr Ted Latham said: “This technology could save considerable time and effort pinpointing the site of fly-tipping or some other incident, cutting costs and reducing any wasted time for our staff. I would urge people to click on the link below to find out more about the what3words app.”
Chris Sheldrick, co-founder and CEO of what3words, added: “Today, people nearly always have their phone on them. We need to use the tools at our disposal to improve public services and potentially save lives.”
