More Music Labels to Stream?

A number of labels have yielded and finally released their music to Apple Music, Pandora and Spotify, among others.

Although streaming platforms like Apple Music and Spotify continue to rise in popularity, many artists and labels that are concerned about the diminished compensation have abstained from joining such services. These include some of the very recognisable names such as Neil Young, Prince and the Beatles.

 

However, things started to change since Spotify first launched stateside nearly six years ago and many other services have joined the bandwagon. Healthy competition has definitely played a role in winning some holdouts including The Beatles, which arrived on a variety of streaming services just in time for Christmas 2015. Prince’s music also became available on Tidal and rock icon and Pono provocateur Neil Young returned his albums to various streaming services.

 

In the past 12 months, a number of other long time holdouts yielded. These include country icon Garth Brooks, who made a deal with Amazon as his exclusive streaming provider last fall as well as rocker Bob Seger, who released several of his records to streaming platforms. Taylor Swift also did the inevitable a few weeks back and released her work to a wide swath of services.
