More funds and tributes pour in following cancer fundraiser's Stephen Sutton's death at 19

Stephen passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early hours of Wednesday morning as confirmed by his mother.

Stephen Sutton, who inspired a lot of people to live in the moment and to realise their dreams, has passed away on Wednesday as confirmed by his mother. 

 

The news came after his family confirmed that the teenager was too sick to communicate as his condition deteriorated. Stephen was diagnosed with bowel cancer and in 2012, he was told that it was terminal. He campaigned to raise funds for Teenage Cancer Trust through social media and surpassed his dream target of £10,000 many times over. 

 

As the Prime Minister David Cameron puts it; “a very bright light has gone out.”

 

However, his spirit and charity work would live on. After the news of his passing, his cancer fundraising campaign has raised £400k within one day. As of Thursday afternoon, the total donation reached £3.66 million 

 

Confirming his death on Facebook, Stephen’s mother, Jane Sutton wrote: "My heart is bursting with pride but breaking with pain for my courageous, selfless, inspirational son who passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early hours of this morning, Wednesday 14th May.

 

"The ongoing support and outpouring of love for Stephen will help greatly at this difficult time, in the same way as it helped Stephen throughout his journey.

 

"We all know he will never be forgotten, his spirit will live on, in all that he achieved and shared with so many."
