A recent report released by Ofcom reveals that mobile phone coverage in Cambridgeshire, particularly around the historic cathedral city of Ely, is below average for England. Vodafone provided one bar reception in most areas, no reception near the cathedral and no 4G coverage in the city centre.
A Vodafone UK spokeswoman said: “We are sorry that our coverage hasn’t been as strong as it should be in parts of Ely.
"We are working hard with our mobile network partner O2 to improve performance. This includes making adjustments to existing sites to increase coverage and signal strength.
"We are also looking at other ways we can continually to improve services to customers.”
Meanwhile, a Telefónica UK Limited spokeswoman said: "Our network team have looked into this for you. There are no known issues in this area but as a precaution, we carried out a remote reset of the mast in Ely yesterday evening.
A spokeswoman from Connecting Cambridgeshire said: "The programme is aware that businesses and communities across the region are increasingly concerned about poor mobile coverage, and the Ofcom Connected Nations Report has shown that mobile coverage for voice and data (2G and 4G services) is below the England average in all areas of the county except the main cities.
"Connecting Cambridgeshire is aiming to improve network coverage so that people can make reliable mobile phone calls and use 4G across the whole geography of the county, including A and B roads, and rail services by 2022.
"If you have any details of customers who still have issues, please let us know and we can share with our network team to investigate further."
