Missing People CCTV
New-style CCTV could help find missing people.
18:49 12 September 2017
West Yorkshire Police is to conduct a study that involves the use of new-style CCTV to help trace vulnerable missing people, including dementia sufferers and children in care, more effectively. According to latest figures, a person is reported missing every five minutes and six seconds.
The study, which is funded by the Home Office Innovation Fund, will be carried out by the Police ICT Company. If the results of the test are found to be favourable, the police may utilise state-of-the-art technology including facial recognition to locate missing people even quicker.
A report says: “A bid was put into the Home Office Innovation fund by West Yorkshire to look at co-ordinated public service CCTV capacity across West Yorkshire offering inter-operability between the five local authorities and Metro with the further potential for integrated technology including facial recognition aimed at protecting vulnerable missing persons.”
