Mid Sussex District Council has confirmed that works on gigabit-capable digital fibre network has begun after they secured £2.2million from the Government's Local Full Fibre Network Fund. The scheme will bring superfast and reliable internet access to businesses, communities and residents allowing them to access a wide range of online services.
Councillor Jonathan Ash-Edwards, leader of the district council, said: “The start of these works is fantastic news, not only for Mid Sussex District Council, but for our communities right across the district.
“The full-fibre network has always been a long-term objective for this council and I am delighted to see that it is starting to be delivered on the ground.”
The network is being delivered as part of the wider Burges Hill Growth Programme and in conjunction with partners across local government.
Mr Ash-Edwards continued: “This technology will help to support a growing economy across Mid Sussex, it will provide reliable high-speed connections for both residents and businesses, will help to transform public services and help secure the future prosperity of our district.”
Digital infrastructure minister Matt Warman said: “I’m delighted shovels are now in the ground in Burgess Hill following the Government’s £2.2million investment to deliver gigabit speed broadband to more than 6,400 homes in Mid Sussex.
“These ultrafast connections will be a huge boost to the local economy and community, and we’ll soon be spending a further £5billion to bring these benefits to every corner of the UK."
