The highly anticipated Michael Jackson wrongful death trial is expected to open on Monday, 29thApril. A jury of six men and six women, along with six alternative jurors have reportedly been selected. The latter will replace a regular juror who may become unable to serve for three months trial in Los Angeles.
Michael Jackson’s family is suing promoter AEG Live claiming that it is liable for hiring Dr Conrad Murray, who was convicted of involuntary manslaughter after he gave Jackson a powerful surgical anaesthetic to help the singer sleep. Jackson died a couple of weeks before his 50 comeback gigs in the UK.
In court papers, Jackson’s family described AEG as heartless, money-driven machine that pushed Jackson to the limits who wasn’t at his best physical condition during that time.
However, AEG claims that it did not control Michael Jackson and that bringing in Dr Murray was the singer’s preference. AEG added that they recommended hiring a British doctor.
As for the £26billion being asked by Jackson’s family, AEG Live called it "preposterous".
