Meancraft! App Scams Minecraft Players

Millions of Minecraft players targeted by malicious scam apps.

An online security researcher has revealed that as many as 2.8 million Minecraft players have been tricked to download a malicious app on their Android smartphones and tablets. Lukas Stefanko from ESET added that he found 33 apps in the Google Play store designed to extort money from players. 

 

Following the download of the malicious apps, users are encouraged to subscribe to a premium-rate SMS subscription to remove the virus from their device. The cost of subscription is £177 per year.

 

The apps, which were first uploaded in August 2014, were already removed from Google Play. However, these have already been installed affecting about 2.8 million players.
