McBarge, the floating McDonald’s prepares for £2.3m makeover.

A floating McDonald’s restaurant built in 1980s and which has been empty for 30 years, is now being prepared for a £2.3m makeover.

 

The McBarge, which used to represent all that was great about pioneering technology and architecture, was showcased at an expo in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

 

Howard Meakin, of Sturgeon's Developments, said: “It will be restored and refitted.

 

“It could be in Vancouver, but it could be in other places as well."

 

"We’re not saying exactly where it’s going to be located, but the plan is that it will undergo extensive renovations," he continued.

 

“And I can’t tell you what the plan is. We’re under a non-disclosure agreement, but it fits in with the 30th anniversary of the Exposition.

 

"It will all happen in 2016, and we expect that it’s going to take probably most of the year to do the work. It will remain in British Columbia, most definitely.”

 

He added: "And the superstructure is in very good structural condition, so we’re happy about that. It’s going to look like a brand new facility.”
