Mariah Carey is pregnant with her first child, reports suggest.

A source close to the star revealed that the 'Heartbreaker' singer and her rapper husband Nick Cannon are expecting a new arrival

The source said: "They're both very excited and very happy. Mariah and Nick want to keep the pregnancy quiet as long as they can."

Carey dropped hints about a possible baby being on the way while she attended the Independent Spirit Awards in March, stating that "Something else very special is on the way!"

However, the couple's spokespeople have not admitted anything at this time. Their publicist said: "I'm not at liberty to discuss Mariah's personal life at this time."

The 'Hero' singer recently pulled out of filming the movie 'For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf' citing medical reasons.

Carey recently won critical acclaim for her supporting role in the Oscar winning film 'Precious' in which she shed her glamorous image to become almost unrecognisable as a childcare worker.
