Fire Tech's recently published research has named Manchester as the UK's most impactful tech hotspot outside London.
The research was based on a study that analysed roles advertised on jobs site Indeed to determine the nation's most impactful tech cities and digitally-focused employment opportunities outside the capital.
According to the study, more than 75per cent of respondents believes that they have to relocate to London to secure a job in tech. The lack of awareness that there are a number of UK cities that are recognised hubs for well-paid roles has led to a digital skills shortage in the fallout of the pandemic.
In order to address the growing digital skills shortage, the UK government must launch initiatives to shine the spotlight on the available digital employment opportunities outside London. For aspiring technologists, Manchester is definitely a great place for employment.
Jill Hodges, Fire Tech founder, commented: “It is no secret that the UK is facing a looming disaster with its shortage of digital skills. Coupled with adults in the UK believing there are no well-paid tech-based jobs where they live means there is a negative mindset towards the tech industry.
“More needs to be done to break the stigma around tech-based job roles and more initiatives need to be in place to highlight the positives of working in this fast-growing industry. As highlighted within the study, tech-based job roles pay extremely well, with most salaries averaging around the £50k mark – just one of the many plus points of working in the industry.”
