Stevie McMullen, who escaped from a prison van on Tuesday while being transported to court, has been arrested after police stopped a car on the A6 in Lancashire, near Lancaster University. However, Ryan MacDonald, who escaped together with McMullen is still on the run.
On Tuesday, three men attacked the GEOAmey prison transport vehicle and freed McMullen and MacDonald by threatening staff transporting the prisoners with a shotgun.
McMullen was arrested together with two other men, aged 27 and 25, on suspicion of assisting an offender. They were taken into custody for questioning.
Assistant Chief Constable Steve Heywood said: "Since two prisoners were sprung from a GEOAmey prison van on Tuesday, our officers have been working round-the-clock to trace these fugitives and bring them back into custody.
"This afternoon, we have arrested a 31-year-old man in the Lancashire area as part of this operation, but our efforts will continue to trace Ryan MacDonald, who is still wanted by police.”
Steve Heywood confirmed the £10,000 reward for anybody who can provide information that will lead to the capture of MacDonald. However, he warned the public not to approach the man due to potential danger and just call the police immediately.
