A man was accidentally shot by his own wife while he was trying to surprise her with breakfast in bed. She thought he was an intruder, it has now been revealed.
28-year-old Zia Segule from Fort Bragg North California had returned to their home without knowing that his wife activated their home alarm system. After unknowingly triggering the alarm system, he stood in front of their bedroom door when Mrs Segule fired a handgun through her closed bedroom door.
Luckily, the shot was not fatal and the military man was able to walk and talk after the incident. He was released from Cape Fear Valley Medical Centre and has since returned home.
Meanwhile, his wife who was questioned by the police, said that she had been concerned about the number of break-ins in the area.
Neighbour Jose Estrella said he understood how the shooting could have occurred: “Being a female by herself, there are a lot of people out there doing harm, so you have to do what you have to do to protect yourself.”
“Even at night, I wake up at night and say ‘Okay, did I just hear something?’ But I wouldn’t open fire just like that.”
