The age of smart technology has dramatically changed the hard rules of childproofing. With your security and privacy at stake, you need to do more than just securing electrical sockets and cabinet doors. Below are some tips that can help you out.
· Use smart TV’s built-in child lock function – Smart TVs, such as those offered by Samsung, allow you to purchase games and movies at the comforts of your own home. If you don’t want your children to make purchases without your permission, use child lock function that requires a PIN to unlock. This can be done by going into the TV’s setting and setting your PIN code.
· Lock your smart thermostat – If you don’t want your kids to mess around with your Nest Thermostat, lock the device through the Nest app. Just open the menu, go to settings and select “Lock” and enter a PIN to confirm.
· Turn off voice purchasing on your Amazon Echo – Keep your children from making online purchases without your permission by turning off voice purchasing on your Echo through your Amazon Alexa app. Just go to Settings tab and select “Voice Purchasing” to turn the feature off.
If you have other smart devices that you need to secure, simply check the product’s user manual or website to know what kind of child locks are built in.
