Madonna has revealed that she is to put her film career aside to go back to what she does best - making music.
The Queen of Pop has announced plans for her 12th studio album while promoting her new movie W.E., which follows King Edward VIII's romance with American divorcee Wallis Simpson.
The star promised that the record will be with fans by spring of next year, with the first single due for release around February time.
She told press at the Venice Film Festival:
"IÂ’ve started a little bit of work in the studio. When I got back to New York and till the end of the year IÂ’ll be in the recording studio.
"The first single and the album will come out in the spring. IÂ’m looking forward to working on it."
The singer appears to be going back to her roots, after her latest directorial offering received a panning from critics, with some calling her take on the scandal "extraordinarily silly" and "inadvertently funny in parts".
In June, manager Guy Oseary revealed the 53-year-old star had begun working on new tracks, tweeting:
"Madonna goes into the recording studio next month to begin work on new album.
"She has a good idea of which producers she will be working with ... lots of questions about what kind of music it will be - stay tuned."
