Madonna has won the role of a 1920 gunslinger in a new film.

The Material Girl is set to take on the part of Texas Guinan - a silent movie star.

Martin Scorese, of "Taxi Driver" fame, will head up the film, which will tell the story of female cowboy who rode bareback and starred in a sting of Westerns.

Guinan eventually left acting behind and became a nightclub hostess during prohibition.

The film, "Hello Sucker!", will be a musical and - according to The Sun - Madonna will help produce the film and write the music.

"Hello Sucker" - which was Guinan's catch phrase - will be filmed next year and the soundtrack will be Madonna's next album.
