Former child star, Macaulay Culkin has been arrested in the US on drugs charges.

The 24 year old actor was arrested having been found in possession of around 17g of marijuana. Mr Culkin was also found in possession of 16 milligrams of drugs that are used to control anxiety and seizures and admitted to police that he did not have a prescription to use them.

Culkin was arrested, along with a friend on Friday, after the car the two men were travelling was stopped by police in Oklahoma City.

The car, which was being driven by Culkin's 22 year- old companion, was stopped for speeding and making an improper lane change.

"Culkin was transported to the Oklahoma County Jail and booked on the state charges of possession of a controlled dangerous substance without a prescription, possession of marijuana, and a municipal charge of possession of marijuana", Captain Jeffrey Becker of the Oklahoma City Police Department confirmed in a statement.

Culkin was later released by police, after paying a $4,000 (2,230) bond, but his publicist, Michelle Baga has refused to comment on the incident.

The former child star is best known for his role in the hit "Home Alone" movies in the early nineties. His earnings from the movies made him one of the highest paid child actors of all time, but like many former child stars, Mr Culkin has struggled to match this early success in adult life.
