Lumiere, a major festival of light of art, is set to be staged in London on January, 2016. It will be organised by the same team who put together the biennial Lumiere festival in Durham. It will feature illuminations and animations projected at 20 locations in the West End and Kings Cross over four nights (14-17 January).
Artists to be confirmed for London are British artist Julian Opie (known for his graphic portraits and large-scale animated LED figures), Janet Echelman (will create a vast, illuminated aerial net sculpture), Paris-based artists Anne Cleary and Dennis Connolly (will create moving figures from projected dots of light), and Binary Waves by Belgian art-studio.
Artichoke director Helen Marriage said: "Lumiere was born in Durham and its incredible success has been recognised across the world. Lumiere London will be a very different event with its own artistic programme, but the principles remain the same."
