Soap spoiler alert! A new recruit is set to shake things up on Albert Square when Harvey Freeman, played by Martin Jarvis OBE, arrives later in the year.
The freelance journalist catches the attention of Enders matriarchs Peggy (Barbara Windsor) and Pat (Pam St Clement).
And drinks and fake fur are set to fly when both, who are each running for councillor, fancy their chances for some romance with the news writer.
Working for the Walford Gazette, he will cross paths with the political hopefuls in their election pursuits.
He is described as a "mysterious, sixty-something freelance journalist with a twinkle in his eye" and "an eye for the ladies".
"On the outside, he appears a perfect gent and match for both Peggy and Pat," show bosses said.
"But in reality they may realise that what he has to offer is a pale comparison to the value of their friendship.""
On joining the cast, Jarvis said: "I'm absolutely thrilled to be a potential thorn between two roses, working with two actresses I greatly admire and have had the pleasure of working with before.
"I'm delighted to be reunited with Pam and Barbara and to have a part in EastEnders."
Jarvis' TV credits include 'Taking The Flak', 'Inspector Lynley', 'A Touch Of Frost', 'Doctor Who', 'The Bill' and 'Micawber'. He was also in the 1998 epic 'Titanic'.
Diederick Santer, Enders executive producer added: "I'm delighted that the wonderful and charming Martin Jarvis will be joining us in Walford, and I can't wait to see his scenes with Barbara and Pam."
Soap fans can see Harvey arrive on the Square in May.
