Bristol, Leicester, Nottingham, Sunderland and Sheffield may have been named the best cities in the United Kingdom for starting a business but they are nowhere close to matching London as the UK’s leading tech hub.
A recent study has revealed that London is still the leader in emerging technologies, including virtual reality, Internet of Things, big data and artificial intelligence. It also leads in the number of tech events, scientific publications, business startup rates, local skills and research and development spending.
London’s index score across all technologies stands at 42.1 followed by Edinburgh, which index score is just 6.3. Cities that made it to the top five are Manchester (4.9), Glasgow (3.8) and Brighton (3.2).
London is notably excelling in the field of artificial intelligence, which is expected to revolutionise business in the coming years. According to recent statistics, global business spending on this technology is up to $219billion in 2018. London is also doing great in the fields of virtual reality (VR) and data. With a score of 21.4, it is ahead of other UK tech hubs by some distance.
