A recent report has revealed that London’s network of CCTV cameras catch almost 4,000 motorists violating traffic laws on a daily basis. The number of violations, which include incorrect bus lane use, performing prohibited left or right turn, stopping in yellow box junctions, and failing to comply with a no entry sign have increased by 30per cent in the last year.
29 London councils have issued 1,439,942 penalty charge notice in 2017-18 for moving traffic contraventions, which could earn boroughs between £93.5million and £187million a year.
Elie Fakhoury, managing director at Click4Reg, said that the sheer volume of PCNs issued for all moving traffic offences is higher than most would expect, suggesting drivers are 'taking unnecessary chances and performing risky manoeuvres which break the law'.
She added: 'Given the capitals busy roads, individuals should consistently seek to re-familiarise themselves with the rules, markings and signs in the highway code.
'In turn, this will not only minimise the number of moving traffic contraventions but more importantly, increase the level of awareness and care taken by drivers whilst on the road.'
