Lloyds big bosses are trying to locate historic silverware that were given to the bank for safekeeping. Among those that are missing include a 1579 communion cup that survived the war after most silver was melted down to pay the troops, a 1737 silver flagon tankard, and a 1738 silver plate.
Bernard Bonsey, a warden at St Veep Parish Church, “We have absolutely no criticism of our local bank manager, who has done all she can.”
Lloyds said: “We are very sorry and are working hard to put this right.”
Meanwhile, a spokeswoman for Lloyds Bank in London has apologised for the incident.
She said: "We take the security of our customers items very seriously. We are conducting a thorough investigation into the location of the items, the nature of which is very detailed and technical.
"Unfortunately this means it is taking longer than we would like, but we continue to keep St Veep Church updated on our progress. We are very sorry for any distress this is causing and are working hard to put this right."
