Pulse Smart Hub to invest £2.5million to install WiFi kiosks across Leicester.

London-based firm Pulse Smart Hub is seeking permission to install 24 WiFi kiosks across Leicester and is ready to invest £2.5million for the project. Aside from free public WiFi access, the kiosks will also be fitted with a public phone, emergency buttons to call 999 and access to maps and local information on touch screens. Other proposed features include sensors that capture data, including air quality, traffic flow and pedestrian numbers. A defibrillator will also be available and can be used to help people suffering from a cardiac arrest.

 

Pulse Smart Hub chief executive officer Patrick Fisher said: “We have been working to ensure the Pulse Smart Hub network supports Leicester City Council’s strategic vision for smart cities and that the benefits to the city and its residents are truly maximized and available free to all.”

The city council has already approved BT’s application to install a number of similar InLink kiosks around the city.
