Leeds to Host Infrastructure Agency

The National Infrastructure Commission is set to open a new office in Leeds.

The National Infrastructure Commission (NIC) is set to open a new office in Leeds as it works toward moving civil service jobs out of the southeast of England. 

 

The independent agency, which advises the government on national digital infrastructure, would have staff at its new Yorkshire base by the end of 2023. However, it would retain a presence in London. NIC carries out in-depth studies into the UK's major infrastructure needs, including transports, water, energy, flood protection, digital infrastructure and waste management. 

 

Chancellor Rishi Sunak said that the move "will help distribute investment and opportunity right across the country as we level up opportunities, boost the economy and help create jobs.”

 

Commenting on the move, NIC chair Sir John Armitt said: “We look forward to continuing to work with local leaders as the commission starts work on our next major assessment of the country’s infrastructure needs for the future, to be published in 2023,” he said.
