Leeds Teaching Hospitals National Health Service (NHS) use wristbands that utilise Zebra Technologies’ Scan4Safety programme to better track patient

Zebra Technologies is providing Leeds Teaching Hospitals National Health Service  with enhanced patient tracking services using its Scan4Safety programme that utilise the Zebra HC100 printer.

 

The portable printer produces wristbands for Accident and Emergency admissions as well as newborns and allows hospitals to easily track a patient from admission to discharge.

 

Wayne Miller, Zebra’s EMEA healthcare director, said: “The new wristband enables a digital voice for the patient, taking the patient’s ID data placed into a barcode – name, date of birth and NHS number. This digital voice becomes the password to the patient’s electric file. Scan4Safety records the ‘who, what, when, where’ for patient care, allowing an accurate record for both safety and accountancy.”

 

The wristbands help healthcare professionals ensure that patients are receiving appropriate treatment and most importantly, reduce and even eliminate errors and delays.

 

Other hospitals that are using the same technology include Plymouth Hospital NHS Trust, North Tees and Salisbury. Initial results are promising and even suggest that Scan4Safety has the potential to save lives and the NHS up to £1 billion over seven years.
