Leeds NHS Celebrate 70 Years

NHS celebrates its 70th year by highlighting technology and innovations that have helped improved patient care.

The NHS is set to celebrate its 70th year and it is highlighting the crucial role that technology has played to improve patient care over the past seven decades.

 

Leeds-based NHS Digital and Academic Health Science Network (AHSN) have teamed up to launch a campaign to celebrate trailblazing ideas that are continuing to make an important difference to today’s healthcare system.

 

Cleveland Henry, the organisation’s programme director for digital collaboration, innovations and digital futures, said that wearables have definitely made an impact. He said: “They really excite me because they are devices which enable people to take control of their own health and well-being. “They can also allow health professionals to monitor people’s conditions remotely and use that data to be predictive and proactive in bringing about better outcomes for patients.” Innovations that have been showcased by NHS Digital and the AHSN during the run-up to July 5 include a test introduced by a consultant at York Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust that helps GPs make the difficult distinction between irritable bowel syndrome and inflammatory bowel disease.”

 

Another innovation that made an impact is a review template developed at Bradford Distrct Care NHS Foundation Trust has also been included in the spotlight. It was designed to help improve the quality of health checks for people with a serious mental illness.

 

NHS Digital has also introduced the 111 online medical advice service. It provides users with a fast, convenient alternative to making a phone call. It is now available in Yorkshire and the Humber and will be launch across England very soon.
